Die Produktion dürfte trotz ihres Alters historisch immer noch sehr akkurat sein und hat somit fast schon Doku-Charakter. Ebenso schauspielerische Leistung, und selbst die Ausstattung , machen aus dem Klassiker ein sehenswertes Lehrstück über Aufstieg und Fall des berühmten Entdeckers.
