Kontra:

Referate sind sehr zeitaufwändig

Empfehlung:

Ja

Hallo!

Also los gehts =)

Queen Elizabeth

- born near London in 1533 at Greenwich palace
- father was Henry, mother was Anne Boleyn
- Henry \"6 wives\" Anne was the second one
- Together with his first woman he had a daughter- Marry
- But Henry wanted a male heir
- Asked the pope to annul the marriage=>pope refused
=> Henry broke away from the Roman Catholic Church and set
up his own church in England
- Married Anne => disappointed child is another girl- named
Elizabeth
- Before Elizabeth was 3 years her mother was executed
- Henrys third wife gave birth to a son- Edward
- She died after his death
- When Edward was 10 his father died =>came to the throne as king Edward
- He and Elizabeth were both brought up in Henrys new church
- Edward had never been a strong child=>tuberculosis, died at the age of 15
- succeeded by Marry; brought up a Roman Catholic
- became Queen made the Catholism state religion
- married to Prince Phillip of Spain=> more unpopular
- persecuted Protestants saw Elizabeth as their only savoir
- Marry suspected E. of plotting with Protestants to gain the throne and had her imprisoned in the Tower of London
- M. died suddenly and E. finally became Queen

At the beginning of E. reign: England was in despair

- Country had been weakened by war and religious strife
- Treasury was empty
- Spain and France were powerful=>both wanted to rule England

Elizabeth\'s reign is often called GOLDEN AGE - time of great achievement and prosperity

- First order of business was to eliminate religious unrest
- In religious matters E. steered a middle course between C. and P.
- Restored the P. service but retained manly features of Catholism
- Hoped compromise would produce unity in the state
- Many Catholics were not reconciled
- Her main concern was the peace and stability of the state
- religious persecution only when certain religious groups threaded this peace
- Wanted a church that would appeal to both C. and P.
- Unfortunately many C. did not share the view of toleration
- They were cruelly persecuted and many were put to death
- E. was largely successful because in 1603 population were generally P. minority C.
- But most important person in Europe pope in his Vatican in Rome
- Catolism was still the dominant European religion
- Even in non catholic states (for example England) pope had a great influence

Elisabeth\'s intellectual interests were broad

- loved horse ride and she also loved to hunt
=> Hunting was an event and would take several hours so the Queen
and her courtiers would often have a picnic in the forest
- had no concept of animal cruelty=> enjoyed many of violent animal sports
=>bear baiting
- Queen also enjoyed to watch sports for example tennis
- She loved the outdoors and was especially fond of taking long walks in her
beautiful gardens
- Everybody in England loved music
- Elizabeth was a skilled musician and enjoyed musical entertainments
- Encouraged musicians and composers
- Fond of dancing, liked tossing
- She was also a patron of arts and literature
- Loved watching plays or dramatic performances
- Had her own company of actors called \"The Queens Players\"
- She was also a gifted scholar and loved learning
- Studied two or three hours a day
- Could speak five languages
- loved to translate classic works into English
- also liked to write poetry

- her love of music, drama and poetry fostered an atmosphere in which many of England\'s greatest writers found encouragement

- Prince Phillip finally decided to attack and conquer England in 1588
- great Armada was sent into the English channel
- England defeated the Spanish Armada after nine days battle
=>great triumph for Elizabeth because she proved that she as a woman could lead in
war as well as any man

- the first settlers were sent to America to open the way for a great colonial empire
- England\'s economy flourished
- In 1599 England entered the arena of world trade and colonization

- Elizabeth never married nor had any children
\"I have already joined myself in marriage to a husband,
namely the kingdom of England\"
- \"Better beggar woman and single than Queen and married.\"
- Because she had not any children the people were anxious about what would happen with the country when she died

- After her death

- all the religious troubles had largely disappeared
- England was now a first class power
- She created a country that was the envy of Europe
- Elizabeth is also known as the \"Virgin Queen\" or \"Gloriana\"
